Edinburgh 3: eat scotland

i've always make a point to google and read up on blogs for good places to eat, recommended by locals and tripadvisor, as a preparation before leaving for any getaway. what's important, for me, is that i have to taste the must-try-delicacies in that particular holiday location.

orang kata, you must try #1 deep-fried mars bar when you are in scotland!

personally i'm not a big fan of fried stuff - those that have been going out for a meal with me would know that! but i've decided to give it a go (...if youconsider having that one bite as food testing la). mr.bofwen said it tasted like goreng pisang [banana fritter]. *laughs* i thought the chocolate has softer texture but woahmygod, sangat sinful please? we didn't really fall for it thus we never hunt for it ever again throughout the trip.

then missyH suggested mussels inn; a #2
seafood restaurant in rose st. unfortunately they had quite a long christmas break thus we didnt get the chance to go there. pffffftttt. but luckily i found fishers in the city instead!

we had a lovely christmas eve's dinner here- dim light with calm and soothing surrounding that gave the romantic touch for the evening. the staff were attentive and polite. and the food were good! *thumbs up* we've ordered the fish and chips [2 big, fat fish with minimal chips- that's how the name "fish and chips" come from, not the other way around] with salad as side dish and a dinner-set consists of spicy squid, steamed west coast mussels in cream and garlic sauce [daaaaaaap tau!] and creme brulee for dessert.

one thing that i've noted through my reading and exploring edinburgh city itself was that they do have a lot of #3 thai restaurants there. feeling like orang kaya, we tried 2 different restaurants in 2-nights in a row; siam thani and dusit thai.

the tomyam from siam thani was oh mak, pedas giler ohkay! as orang nogori sembilan, i can handle spicy food up to a super high level but i don't like my tomyam to be that spicy. sigh. i miss tomyam from sempadan thailand - where i used to go with mama and abah everytime they travelled kelantan to picked me up from mrsm pc. but the green thai curry from dusit thai was oohhlala, delicious!!!! better than the one i had from thai thai east in old st, london. definitely worth trying! oh the nasi from the latter restaurant was in smaller portion though.

damage done from the whole gastronomic, white-winter trip? $__$

lets just say that i'm glad i'm back in london - where i can cook and control my food expenses tightly- to save up money and survive this whole january.

although you get nyummilicious food *nom nom nom* without any effort in preparing it [not that we have the facilities to cook in our accommodation pun!] but it does burn a hole in the pocket if you do it too frequent! *checking the bank account with one eye's shut*

You are so brave to go to Scotland in the winter! Can you believe I've been here for 7 years and still haven't made it that far up north? I'll get there one day though, and when I do I'll come back to this post to find out where to eat! :)
