i've never realised how food is deeply involved with my social life until i came to london. post-exams jom makan. birthday celebrations jom makan. catching-up-session jom makan.
unfortunately being abroad is not as easy like back in malaysia! can go lepak kedai mamak anytime, no need to think "is the meat halal?" or "is alcohol being added?". you can eat anything - momantai [no problem] !!! if you want to avoid all the hassle and kemusykilan, all you need to do is avoid the chinese restaurant that hangs babi infront [not that i've seen any la in malaysia].
dulu i used to find it troublesome but now, naaaaaah! it doesn't bothers me at all. afterall i am a big fan of seafood; i lived up to my nickname given by wandon - kucing. i may dine at a restaurant cooking pork dishes or selling alcohol, but i will never ever eat "katok" meat no matter how desperate i am. that's why i was shocked when i went for a meal with a non-muslim friend to a chinese restaurant and was offered duck meat.
i *blinked* once and got no response. i *blinked* twice and guess what popped out from the friend's mouth - "anything ok right as long as it's not pork lah?"
-__-"
it seems like not everyone get the idea of "halal" meat; which caught me off guard because this friend of mine is a malaysian! ahhhhhh.....ignorance is a bliss NOT! probably showing this video can help the friend understand more of this "halal" business.
