the first day would be our normal rituals - sembahyang hari raya, raya breakfast, salam bermaafan, and immediately followed by duit raya (the highlight of raya 10 years back) - before we start off the engine and head back to Kuala Pilah.
grrrr i used to hate the idea going back to kampung. i just...dislike the toilet! it's the cangkung one and i just find it scary that sometimes the ulat gonggok would be crawling on the wall while i'm doing my business. i used to restrain myself from eating too much so that i don't have to do BIG BUSINESS there. but it's hard to say NO! to wandon's cooking. if it's a 3 nights stay, i'll be super moody on the last day - the side effect of "tahan-ing" for too long. rofl.
but as i grew older, i've realised that raya is not the same without going back to Kuala Pilah.or i'd say, in my case, raya is never the same without having the family members around to celebrate it with.
yes, raya is not raya without it's glorious food - rendang&lemang, nasi impit&kuah kacang and lots of kuih raya being served on the table.
yes, raya is not so raya without a nice (possibly new) raya outfit yang sangat colourful, bergilap dengan batu-batu and completed with a matching handbag, shoe and accessories.
yes, raya is not raya when it's not a holiday!
and yes, raya is actually more than just about how much of duit raya you can collect within the one month of celebration.
raya is all about being with the loved ones. no matter where you are, no matter what you wear, no matter what you eat. i personally think that some people take their family for granted. because they knew the blood-ties are stronger than anything else. they realised that the family will always be there for them no matter what happens. oh, and they think for whatever wrongdoings they've done, they will still be forgiven for it.
sad eh? if only people know how to prioritize... that nothing else comes before family! not even a work promotion, not even a bonus, and not even for anyone else i.e. bf/gf. you can lose them all and find replacement; but for family, it doesn't work like that.
selamat hari raya, people.
maaf zahir dan batin :))
