This place was listed as one of Britain's Best Brunches in the Stylist. Thus off we went to the branch in Islington today.
It is about 5 minutes walk away from Angel station. as we entered the cafe, we were welcomed by trays of pastries neatly placed on the left side and bowls of salad on the right side. everything looked so pretty!
the interior design of the cafe is minimal- white wall all around and a long, communal table in the middle. i think there were about 4 or 5 tables for 2 at the sides.
but dang!, we were so disappointed to found that we missed the last order for their breakfast menu just by few minutes *boohoo* i gave the lady-next-door a loooong i-want-that-too stare. can't help it lah coz the scrambled eggs that came with smoked salmon, home-made English muffin and watercress salad looked utterly delicious. *drooling*
we then settled for the one main- blue cheese and spinach quiche with caramelised onion- and 2 salads- roasted aubergine+ coconut couscous with mango and lime leaves. the quiche would have been more delicious if i don't "bump" into the blue cheese that often. urghh i hate blue cheese +_+ i loveeee aubergine though and i'm gonna be bias :P meanwhile the coconut couscous was uhmmm a quirky twist. very different, i would say. not something that i would eat on its own. too strong lemon-yyy/ citrus end-taste.
oh we ordered 3 desserts as well; passion fruit meringue tart, apple cake and lemon tart. couldn't order any chocolatey-pastries as all of them contain alcohol (rum, bailey...). among all three, the apple cake was my favourite *thumbs up* soft, moist, flavoursome (combination of apple+cinnamon was perfect!) and the creamy buttercream filling was oh-so-divine. niceeeee!
as we left the cafe, there was a looooong que of people waiting to be seated. giler glams la this place!
