i tell you, it wasn't an easy job on picking which cafe to try - there's too many of them out there!!! and some of them are ridiculously expensive! i wonder why; gold-pastries being served maybe? *shrug*
after surveying here and there, i settled for bea's of bloomsbury.the place is quite small, considering that they can only accommodate about roughly 25 people inside the cafe at one time. but oh my, i like their "open" kitchen concept so much that it felt good lepaking there, sniffing the aroma of the freshly baked pastries! simply delicious!!!
for GBP 9.90 per person, we were served with 2 big fat scones, 2 signature cupcakes (red velvet and vanila-rasberry), 2 mini Valrhona brownies (choc+peanut butter), 2 mini Belgian blondie (white choc brownies) and 4 mini meringue. of course a pot of tea each.
personal opinion, i like the scones; crispy on the outside and soft in the inside where it'll just crumbles in your mouth as it goes in. definitely among the nicest scones i've tried so far!beautiful cupcakes with sweetness-well-balanced icing on top, although i don't think they were that that special- it was so so! but the white chocolate brownies was a disappointment. if i come again, it'll definitely be for the scones.
overall, i find it as an interesting alternative on spending time catching up with friends. or maybe, can i say that, this is just like lepak-ing at mamak stalls in malaysia. except that, ini got "class" lagi lah *wink*
ps- ahhhh i wished someday i can have my own cafe. just like this. with more savoury pastries and
