truthfully i never imagined i would end up being a dentist. it was mama who thought i can do well in this course as to quote her, "you have a pair of magical hands." giggle. at times i do find it too stressful and demotivating to not have full control, being too dependent on others i.e. the patients, in order to graduate. but alhamdulillah i'm surviving. insyallah we are graduating in less than 5 months.
the question now is- what's next?
as i am really clueless on what i can do later on in dentistry as a career, i'm sure glad that i went to the career's talk today. it was definitely inspiring to hear from the dentists in different branches- academic bits (i.e. lecturers, clinical tutors), general dental practitioner, postgraduate in orthodontics, SHO, community dental service, corporate associates and the army.
although i am still not pretty sure what i want to do in the future, i do know what i NOT want to do. i don't want to end up just being a general dental practitioner. i neither want to be an orthodontist (in my opinion, they are daylight robber who took thousands ringgit from the parents for the sake of their children's vanity!) nor a prosthodontist (especially the removable gigi palsu- kenot tahan pt's kerenah).
But then-
i'm considering on putting my career development on hold. as in, as soon i return to malaysia, i wanna settle down. start my own family, since i'm hitting the age 30 in 5 years time. and i'm very sure that i want to give birth to my first child before that happens.
....i have to lah! got no choice already. i'm running out of time! lol.
unwise you think? will i still be up for it (postgraduate course) when i'm 30ish with few kids and a husband to take care of? or i'll lose the momentum and end up being a general dental practitioner for the rest of my life?
