last saturday, we had missyH's pre-birthday lunch at Clos Maggiore; a romantic french restaurant in Covent Garden that the birthday girl (+ missyYH) has been dying to try out since ages ago.
i was kinda hoping that we'll be seated in the main dining area - with loads of trees decoration - but unfortunately, with the GBP19.50 for 3 course-meal tt offer, we were seated in the first floor. nevertheless, the ambiance was still pretty neat, calming and most importantly, they have good lighting for camwhores like us!
no, the girl in the mustard-top is not the birthday girl! she just...happened to be in most of my photos. lol.
us, being not-so-posh, made so much noise as soon as we started chatting among ourselves. we don't see each other that often nowadays (and when we do, we'll be stressing too much over dental-related stuff!), so that was a good change of environment to lift up these poor, stressful-souls being stucked in whitechapel and burrying ourselves underneath the pile of books. shockingly, even missyE came for the lunch - which was definitely a rare occasion lah!
the service was good *thumbs up* and i'm definitely impressed by their well-trained manners. for my 3-course-meal, i had crab for starter, scottish salmon for main and vanilla creme brulee for dessert. my favourite? definitely the dessert! nyummmy! they had this really cute, sour rasberry ice-cream on top and butter cookies at the side which went really well with the oh-super-schweeet vanilla creme brulee. the rest was ok-ok lah.
by the way, a birthday celebration wouldn't be complete without the konon2-it's-a-surprise midnight celebration, no? unfortunately, me being nomad southend-whitechapel for the past 3 weeks and busy with *cough*exams preparation*cough*, didn't really manage to "whip" anything too extravaganza. but my new cuppacake stand made it looked outstanding! this time, brooklyn blackout cuppacakes was picked out of the other recipes in the hummingbird recipe book. i've tried to create the cake's identity to become more helen-y.
