since 2009 is the year of Ox, i think it deserves an entry on itself ...as i was born in THAT year ...as i'm feeling all festive and auspicious ...as i've worked so hard to steam the so-called-mutated-gigantic grouper fish yesterday!
no, it was something waaaaaay bigger than that. besar banget hingga menutup satu setengah kepala. alhamdulillah, it was a success and was warmly welcomed by the hungry tummies of the 40-ish guests.
fuuuuuuhhhhhhhh, naseb baik!
on selecting the dish for the floyer reunion dinner, i google-ed here and there to find the one that suits the event. takkan lah nak masak rendang utk cny dinner, no? in the end, i picked fish. why?
the answer is why not? **giggle**
Fish in Cantonese is "Yue" which can also means over abundance. "Every year there is an overflow of abundance.". Traditionally, they will serve one whole fish together with its head and tail parts which signifies completion in all the things that we do; that there is a beginning and an ending. Start well. End well. I find it interesting that you should not eat the fish completely, and it should not be broken during or after cooking ;))
may this year of ox brings good fortune and luck to all of us.
gong xi gong xi fa cai!!!
