Did i tell you guys that both my wishes were granted yesterday? Yerp, Adil came and we got this young lad as our patient. And guess wut, the patient has the same birthdate as Adil! hahaha...what a coincidence la kan :P
I was going through the medical, family and social history with the patient and we came across "the question" that made him stare blankly at me. As if it's written on his face,"Duhh, i'm a muslim!"
I asked him, "Do you drink?"
To me, it's just one of the procedures of history taking. We asked patient about alcohol consumption coz it does affects the dental health. I didn't mean to be ignorant about his religious! I know it's a sin for muslims to drink but ade je yang minum. Kaaaaannnn???!!!! So yeah, i didnt mean to insult him ke ape...but im just trying not to be a judgemental person :) But maybe, if i were to do it again, i'll say it in diff version kot, to make it sound....nicer? hehehe!
It's pretty hard not to make assumptions on people before we actually get to know them better! Sometimes when we listen to what others said about "the other person", unconsciously, the thing stuck on your head. And when you meet that person, you teringat ape yg orang ckp bout him/her. And whether sedar or not, you do treat the person differently! Walhal, org tu tak buat ape2 pun dekat you!
This is wut happens when people make assumptions based on generalization!!! Like how we always cakap, "Boys are lazy and they can't get any job done on time." Or how a relationship wont last that long if perigi yang cari timba. What about how orang Nogori can tahan pedas giler babs and orang Pantai Timur with their sweet-tooth. Or how short men has this ego as high as Mount Everest. And do you notice what guys will say when they drive? "huh if lambat macam ni, sure perempuan ar yang bawa!"
I guess the assumptions wont exist if it's not true! Macam....if tkde angin, masakan pokok bisa goyang! BUT- it's not necessarily true in all situation. And it might be the opposite in some individuals! So i guess, wouldn't it be better if we let the person to show us the real person inside him/her instead of us judging them way in advance???!!!
Soooo...patutlah kan i tanye muslim patient of mine die minum ke tak??? ke tak patut huh????? *confussed*confussed*

ash, i so understand how u feel. like, "patut ke i tanya question ni? but if i dont, then my history taking wld b incomplete". i found saying this helps a lot: "this is just a standard question that we ask all our patients, so, do u drink? do u take recreational drugs? etc." they usually will answer without feeling offended. =)
owh, and believe me, tipu la kalau there's a generalisation that muslims dont drink (it -the generalisation- doesnt apply these days). met a number of muslim patients who drink. and yeah, a fren's fren (Muslim la obviously...if not it wont b relevant to ur post) looked at me as though i'm an alien when he found out i didnt drink. heh... odd...

ada je yg minum, so it's not wrong to ask kot. hehe.
::.:: nono ::.:: realistic? haahaha...wei, ramai je muslim kat sini minum daaaaa! i have a local fren yg minum and he's like "shhhhh dont tell anyone coz im a muslim!" ahahaha lawak gilos mamat tuh! but then, come to think about it again... even if the muslim minum pun, i doubt he/she will admit that time history taking. kaaaannnn?????

btw, what i'm tryna say by realistic is... tak salah you tanye your patient whether die minum ke tak cus "too many ppl wear a tittle of a muslim but they dont practice Islam". Well i took these words from some flash..
klu pun your patient terasa, padan la muke dia kan??? nape nak terasa pulak??? dh mmg die minum.. tol tak???? ngegeheheh....
nono, ni "sape mkn cili, die terasa pedas" la ek???? kekekekeke :D
